In the mid-1970’s, a very quiet revolution began. That revolution was led by a small company, called Atari, that released the oddly-named Atari 2600, a home video game console system that used cartridges to play different titles. Since that time, the video game industry has ridden an incredible, up and down roller coaster ride. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the video game industry experienced enormous success. In homes, consoles like the aforementioned Atari 2600, Mattel’s Intellivision, Coleco’s Colecovision, and the Atari 5200 were very popular. Games like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, and Asteroids caused arcades to pop up in virtually every town in America. Then the bottom fell out. The mid-1980’s saw an incredible collapse of what appeared to be a new and stalwart industry.
